About Colombo Air Symposium

The Colombo Air Symposium is one of the key annual events organized by the Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF). The inaugural symposium was held in year 2015 and "Colombo Air Symposium - 2017" is the third in its series and is scheduled to be conducted on 12-13 October 2017 with the participation of senior international military officers, thought leaders and various field experts.

While border and territorial disputes continue to be potential flash points for conflicts around the world, non-conventional security threats such as transnational terrorism, natural disasters and global pandemics have added complexities and posed new challenges for military forces. Air power, a traditionally offensive military instrument, is increasingly employed to address the above issues as well as humanitarian assistance, and peace-keeping operations.

The "Colombo Air Symposium - 2017" provides a great opportunity to discuss, share and enhance knowledge on the application of Air Power in contemporary conflict scenarios and to realize the challenges on utilization of air power in national, regional and global contexts for professional members of SLAF and of its sister services as well as other interested professionals in the national and international defence sectors.

This year's theme 'Air Power in Addressing Asymmetric Threats', undoubtedly will stimulate a broad discourse between experts, professionals, policy makers and researchers in the Defence and Security sector and will lead to promote the stakeholders to do more research and development on enhancing regional and global cooperation for Defence and Security.

SLAF Symposium Committee requests research authors to submit papers in relation to this year's theme “Air Power in Addressing Asymmetric Threats“ with special emphasis on the emerging challenges.
