The Course Structure Of The Post Graduate Diploma In Defence Management

The course is structured for fourteen weeks full time duration. During this period, a course participant has to complete a total of twelve (12) modules including research project.

A training module without a practical component, a credit is earned by spending15 contact hours. Such contact hours will consist of interactive lectures, tutorials and seminar sessions. Practical training module credit is earned through 30 contact hours. For such a module contact hours will consist of interactive lectures, tutorials, seminars and practical exercises (assignments).

The training curriculum which covers 27 credits keeping in par with Sri Lanka Qualification Framework Level 8 within the stipulated course duration period of 15 weeks. In addition to the academic studies, extensive training on discipline, customs and etiquettes, service traditions, public speaking, presentation skills, general service knowledge, drill, physical training, sports, teamwork, leadership, social behaviour, geo politics and strategic planning are integral components of the programme. Therefore, the programme intensity and testing systems exerts substantial pressure on Student Officers continually moulding them to become efficient junior staff Officers in demanding military environment which is uniquely different from conventional academic programmes.

The Postgraduate Diploma Course is spanned over a period of one year. There will be two terms during the course and first term consists of 105 days (approimately15weeks) of residential training at SLAF Academy China Bay covering the Defence Management Part and General Management Part which will be conducted at the SLAF Academy Cby or Gen Sir John Kothelawala Defence University. The balances 39 weeks are meant for the completion of the Individual Research Project. A total number of 12 Modules including the Individual Research Project will be conducted during the Course duration.
