SLAF 'Kick-off' at its First International Rugby Ground

The first international Rugby ground managed by the Sri Lanka Air Force was declared opened on 29th March 2012 by the Commander of the Air Force Air Marshal Harsha Abeywickrama at Sri Lanka Air Force Base Ratmalana.

Upgrading the SLAF Base Ratmalana rugby ground up to the international level, was initiated by the former Commander of the Air Force and the Present Chief of Defence Staff Air Chief Marshal Roshan Goonetileke and it was successfully completed by the Base Commander SLAF Base Ratmalana Air Commodore Sumangala Dias and the staff of the SLAF Base Ratmalana.


Mrs Shehara De Silva, General Manager, Sales & Marketing Janashakthi Insurance PLC, Mr Lasitha Gunerathne, Vice President Sri Lanka Rugby Football Union, Representative from Sri Lanka Army & Representative from Sri Lanka Rugby Football Referees Union were present to grace the occasion.
  
Apart from that the SLAF Inter Unit Rugby tournament year 2011/2012 final match was played at this ground as the inauguration match of the ground. SLAF Academy China-bay and SLAF TTS Ekala fought for the trophy and SLAF Academy China-bay won the match defeating SLAF TTS Ekala by 05 points. The Final scores were 23 points (T-03, C-01, P-02) and 18 (T-02, C-01, P-02).
