SLAF troops for Haiti

The 14th additional contingent, comprising of 44 SLAF troops scheduled to be deployed in Haiti completed their training at the United Nations Peace Keeping Operations (UNPKO) Training Center of the Sri Lanka Army in Kukuleganga and passed out on Friday (15) June 2012 at Regimental Head Quarters Artillery  Corps, Panagoda. These SLAF personnel who are from a number of trades in the Air Force will be deployed along with the SL Army and Navy personnel under the UN banner.

They were trained in Traffic Control Operations, Civil Disorder Management, Disarmament/ Demobilization and Reintegration/ Cordon and Search Operations, Convoy operations/ Patrolling and Improvised Explosive Device Detection and Defusing.

They were also educated about the United Nations, its mandate, the Rules of engagement, present situation in Haiti, cultural differences, International Humanitarian Law and Human Resources Management, HIV/AIDS, Sexual Exploitation, UN Log system, UN provost duties, experienced in Haiti, Creole language and stress management etc.

Brigade Commander Artillery Brigade Brig ND Wanniarachchi RSP,   received the salute as the Chief Guest on the occasion. The 15th additional contingent is comprised of 10 Officers and 190 Other Ranks from Army, Navy and Air Force.


Wing Commander BP Piyasiri commands the SLAF contingent whilst Squadron LeaderUJB Nissanka and forty two Other Ranks comprise the rest of the SLAF contingent.
