Ranaviru Real Star 2012 – Grand Finale

The Grand Finale of the Ranaviru Real Star Competition concluded last night at the Sugathadasa Indoor stadium with Ayomi Perera of the Sri Lanka Army winning the competition.  "Ranaviru Real Star" is a brain child of Secretary Defence and Urban Development Mr. Gotabaya Rajapaksa which aims at bringing out the hidden talents of war heroes of the three forces.

The chief guest on the occasion was HE Mahinda Rajapakse, the president of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka and the Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces, who attended this glamorous event along with the first Lady Mrs Shiranthi Rajapakse. Defence Secretary Mr Gotabaya Rajapakse, RSP and Mrs Ioma Rajapakse also attended the event along with the Chief of Defence Staff Air Chief Marshal WDRMJ Goonetilleke, Commander of the Air Force Air Marshal Harsha Abeywickrama, Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya, Commander of the Navy Vice Admiral D.W.A.S.Dissanayake,  Inspector General of Police N.K. Illangakoon Director of the Media Centre for National Security Mr Lakshman Hulugalla a host of special guests which included officials of ministries and senior officers of the tri services.

The competition was judged by renowned artiste Mr Jackson Anthony, renowned artiste Visharada Edward Jayakody and renowned actress Ms Yashoda Wimaladharma. The winners and runners up were selected on the basis decision of the judges (60%) and on the votes received from members of the public (40% ) through an sms voting system.

The winner was presented the keys to a brand new luxury house valued at Rs. 17 million by First Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa. The second place, secured by Ordinary Musician Gayan Anurapriya of the Sri Lanka Navy and was presented with the key to a Toyota "Avanza" car and Rs. 1 million along with a trophy. The third place went to Lance Corporal Kavinda Dumindaraj of the Sri Lanka Army who was awarded Rs. 5 million together with a trophy. The fourth and fifth places were secured by Sgt Asela Manukulasooriya of the Sri Lanka Army and Corporal Imali Anuruddhika of the Sri Lanka Air Force respectively. They were awarded Rs. 500,000 each along with the trophy.

Cpl Imali Anuruddhika of the Sri Lanka Air Force who was one of the five finalists put on an excellent show and was commended by the judges of the show as being the only one who consistently showed improvement each time she performed. Renowned artiste Jackson Anthony commending her ability to sing and act at the same time went to the extent of offering Cpl Imali Anuruddhika a chance of acting in his next film if she gets formal permission to do so!!
