The Formation day of SLAF Unit Katukurunda was celebrated on 16th November 2012 and as part of the celebrations a shramadana campaign was carried out at the Kalavila Vishwa Buddhist Centre in Aluthgama. A renovation programme was also carried out at Ethagama Amarasekara Junior Vidyalaya. The children of Vishaka Girls’ orphanage were invited to the unit and were given an opportunity to see a civil pilot training aircraft. This was followed by a camp tour, lunch and awarding of gifts to all the children.

The formation day working parade was reviewed by the Commanding Officer, Wg Cdr DHS Amarasinghe which was followed by a series of cricket matches and all ranks lunch.
