Chief of Defence Force Maldives Visits SLAF

Maldivian Chief of Defence Force, Major General Ahmed Shiyam ndc, psc paid a visit to the Air Force Headquarters for a meeting with Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Harsha Abeywickrama this morning, 10th June 2013. The Commander held a discussion on matters of mutual interest and the visit underscores the historic ties and friendly cooperation between the two forces.

At the end of the visit, the Commander and the visiting General exchanged mementoes to mark the occasion and General Shiyam entered his thoughts in the Visitors Book prior to his departure from Air Force Headquarters.
 
General Shiyam’s meeting with the Commander comes as part of his five day goodwill visit to Sri Lanka which began on Friday 7th June. The Maldivian Chief of Defence Force is accompanied by his spouse Madam. Khadeejanaeem on this visit.

During the General’s five day visit, he is scheduled to call upon His Excellency, President Mahinda Rajapaksa and Secretary Ministry of Defence and Urban Development Gotabhaya Rajapakse.

The General met the Commander of the Navy on 7th June 2013 and will also meet the Chief of Defence Staff, Commander of the Army and has scheduled a visit to Kothalawala Defence University during the course of his visit.

Major General Ahmed Shiyam joined the Maldivian National Defence Force on 16th September 1986 and is a graduate of the Royal Military Academy,Sandhurst UK. He is also a graduate of the prestigious National Defence College of India and completed his Infantry Officer Advance Course at Fort Benning, USA and is the first Maldivian graduate from the Command and Staff College in Quetta Pakistan.
