Another series of workshops titled “Aviation Fundamental for Beginners”, conducted by the Air Force Museum focusing on inspiring kids to become “future aviators” and to employ their vacation meaningfully, was successfully concluded at the end of the August vacation.

A total of 360 kids were given the opportunity to participate in the series of workshops.  There were six workshops conducted during the August school vacation and the participants received the benefit of sharing the knowledge of experienced Air Force personnel which included Engineers, Pilots and Technicians. They were taught the basics of aviation, evolution of aircraft, structure and material of aircraft, basic aerodynamics, and were introduced to helicopter theory, instrumentation and communication. There were a number of practical and experimental activities arranged to make the subject matter more clear, understanding and interesting. The kids were also given the opportunity to visit workshops at Aero Engineering Support Wing at SLAF Base Ratmalana and also the Air Traffic Control tower at Ratmalana Airport.

All the participants had the privilege of joining the “Young Aviators Club” which will benefit them in further learning about aviation by participating in several activities and other advanced workshops/training sessions in the future. The next session of the workshop series will be scheduled during December school vacation and inquiring on admission could be directed to the Commanding Officer Air Force Museum SLAF Base Ratmalana who can be contacted on [email protected].
