Air Force on Standby for Aeromedical Operations

The SLAF conducted a successful test landing on the helipad at General Hospital Colombo and at Lanka Hospitals in Colombo utilizing Bell 412 Helicopter last Tuesday (5th November 2013). This Bell 412 helicopter can be converted in to an Air ambulance with modern medical equipment at short notice.

This helicopter which is attached to No.4 Helicopter Squadron of the Sri Lanka Air Force is specially outfitted to transport patients in a medical emergency and from unfavourable terrain where the utilization of ground ambulances is impractical. This aircraft is equipped with facilities to monitor and treat patients during transportation.

The trial landings were conducted as part of the preparation for CHOGM 2013 which will be held from 10 to 17 November 2013. Director Operation of the Sri Lanka Air Force Air Vice Marshal GP Bulathsinghala, Command Air traffic Control Officer of the Air Force Group Captain HBDJ Karunaratne, Director National Hospital Dr. Anil Jasinghe and Deputy Director Accident Services Dr. Kapila Wickremanayake were present on the occasion.
