The Helitours complete its Under Slung Operation at Adam’s Peak

The Mi 171 helicopter of the SLAF Helitours successfully completed its Under Slung Operation at Adam’s Peak this morning (08th January 2014). The under slung operation was launched on 02nd January 2014 in order to facilitate the construction work presently being undertaken on Adam's Peak (Sri Pada).

During these eight day operation the crew of the air craft completed 23 stories and airlifted 26 tons to the Uda Maluwa of the Adam's Peak. The operation was expected to be complete in five days but due to bad weather and mist the crew of the aircraft took seven day to complete the entire operation.

Due to the difficulty of transporting these items up the mountain, the SLAF's commercial arm 'Helitours' was contracted to airlift a Brass Bell, a Dolosmahe Pahana  (eternal flame oil lamp) and other construction materials from Lakshapana Estate Sports ground, Nallathaniya by philanthropist Mr.Thusith Wijesena Chairman and CEO of Kandy City Centre.

Commanding Officer No. 6 Squadron Wing Commander Kalinga Maheepala led the Operation with a team of 42 personnel of the Sri Lanka Air Force. This Under Slung Operation was a Helitours chartered operation.
