No. 05 Air Defence Radar Squadron Sri Lanka Air Force Station Palavi Celebrates its 07th Anniversary

No.  05 Air Defence Radar Squadron, Sri Lanka Air Force Station Palavi celebrated its 7th Anniversary on 24th May 2014.  No.05 ADRS was established in North Western region of Sri Lanka to strengthen the National Air Defence System in 2007. During past few years it has served to protect the Sri Lankan sky from various threats, especially the prominent air threat of LTTE. Many Live Interceptions were carried out with Fighter Jets to irradicate the LTTE air wing and it continues to protect the sky from future air threats.

The celebrations started with a Dhamma Deshana by Ven. Panduwasnuwara Amarasiri Thero which was held at the Station temple on Wesak  Poya day. The Commanding Officer of SLAF Station Palavi  Gp Capt Indika Weeraratna, other formation COs and  a large gathering were present.

A cricket tournament was also conducted on 24th May 2014 with the participation of four teams from Base HQ, EOD School, No.38 Regt Wing and No.05 ADRS. The Commanding Officer of No 05 ADRS Sqn Ldr Chaminda Peiris graced the occasion. No. 38 Regt Wing took away the honours after a nail biting victory over the No. 05 ADRS Team.  The winners were awarded with the champions’ trophy and other valuable prizes.
