49th Anniversary Celebrations of No 4 VVIP Helicopter Squadron

No 4 VVIP Helicopter Squadron celebrated its 49th Anniversary on 1st June 2014.  The celebrations were started with a blood donation campaign held on 30th May 2014.

The Commanding Officer, Gp Capt LH Sumanaweera reviewed the working parade and spoke on the heritage of the No 4 Squadron and the important milestones it has passed during its 49 year history.  He re-iterated the heights the squadron has reached beginning from the Dragonfly helicopter of the No 2 Squadron in 1955 to the modern Bell 412 EPs.  He went on to speak of the  contributions the squadron had made starting from a unit established for Search and Rescue role to the present day important role of flying the Head of the State.

Subsequent to the working parade, the festivities began with a night cricket tournament, playing at the SLAF Base Ratmalana sports ground under the lights. A musical show followed the tournament which rounded up the entertainment for the night.

 The event was held with the participation of the Base Commander SLAF Base Ratmalana Air Cdre PDKT Jayasinghe. The Commanding Officer No.4 Squadron, GP Capt LH Sumanaweera, Pilots, Engineering Officers, Men and civilians of the Squadron participated throughout the event.
