No. 30 Junior Command and Staff Course Graduation Ceremony
2:52pm on Friday 7th August 2009
The Graduation Ceremony of the No. 30 Junior Command and Staff Course (JCC) was held at the Junior Command and Staff College auditorium at SLAF Base China Bay on 7 August 2009. The Director Air Operations Air Vice Marshal KA Goonetilleke graced the occasion as Chief Guest.

A total of 19 Officers from the SLAF in the ranks of Squadron Leader and Flight Lieutenant and 4 Officers from the Sri Lanka Army in the rank of Captain followed the No. 30 JCC and graduated from the Junior Command & Staff College. All these Officers have achieved the required criteria to be awarded a Post Graduate Diploma in Defence Management from the University of Kelaniya.

The Officers underwent a 14 week intensive and integrated study programme.  It was a full time residential course with compulsory modules suited to fulfill the Command and Staff Duties requirements of the SLAF. As an adult education programme, the JCC was conducted on the basis of a knowledge sharing exercise where the course participants were expected to actively seek out knowledge under the guidance of the Directing Staff as well as visiting experts.

The Course Participants carried out an independent research and submitted the findings as a Commandant’s Paper and faced a Viva Voce as partial requirements to complete the course. The course curriculum was designed to promote the development of English and IT skills. Great emphasis was also laid on the development of public speaking skills of the participants. They were also taken on an organized study tour to a number of selected external organizations in order to expose them to the various challenges of management and the means by which different organizations meet them. Physical fitness was also an important part of the curriculum. A regular programme of physical training and organized games were included to ensure fitness of the participants not only during the course, but even afterwards as part of their lives.

The support and encouragement given by the Commander of the Air Force, Director Training and all other Directors, were indeed a great inspiration for the Commandant and the Staff to complete the No. 30 JC & SC successfully.
