Inter Unit Drill and Band Competition 2017

The Inter Unit Drill and Band Competition 2017, was successfully concluded yesterday (10 July 2017) at the SLAF Base Katunayake Parade Square.

Over 23 teams representing all SLAF establishments took part in the drill competition from which three teams, one from SLAF Base Katunayake, one from SLAF Station BIA and one team from SLAF Trade Training School (TTS) Ekala qualified to perform in the finals. All three teams displayed their talents in front of the chief guest, the Commander of the Air Force Air Marshal Kapila Jayampathy.

SLAF TTS Ekala Team obtaining 2565.04 points, led by Squadron Leader DMK Gamage marched ahead of the other teams to receive the Championship Trophy from Commander of the Air Force, whilst SLAF Base Katunayake team (2498.06 points) led by Flight Lieutenant HM Pinnaduwa and SLAF Station BIA Team  (2462.03 points) led by Flying Officer EMCB Budumuththawa  became second and third respectively.

The Band Competition was between the Military Band of the Red Wing of SLAF Base Katunayake and the military band of SLAF Combat Training School (CTS) Diyatalawa. SLAF CTS Diyatalawa scored 3123 points, which made them the Inter Unit Band Competition champions, whilst Military Band of the Red Wing of SLAF Base Katunayake (2846 points) became the runners up.

Special drill displays by the visiting Indian Air Force drill team and Qualified Drill Instructors of the Sri Lanka Air Force added colour to the ceremony.

Chief of Staff of the SLAF Air Vice Marshal DLS Dias, Members of the Air Force Board of Management, Base Commander of Sri Lanka Air Force Base Katunayake Air Commodore Prasanna payoe, Base Commanders, Commanding Officers, Senior Officers, Officers, Other ranks and their families witnessed the competition.
