SLAF Introduces the Beach Kabaddi To Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka Air Force Kabaddi has turned another golden page of Sri Lanka Kabaddi by introducing Beach Kabaddi to Sri Lanka on 15th May 2010.

The first ever workshop on Beach Kabaddi for coaches, referees and officials were conducted at SLAF Station Ekala which was jointly organized by SLAF Kabaddi and Sri Lanka Amateur Kabaddi federation on 15th May 2010. This was arranged of the initiative of Group Captain Janaka Amarasinghe, chairman SLAF Kabaddi.

The game of Kabaddi is one of the oldest sports which spans to thousands of years. This game is very popular all around in India and has spread in Asian countries and some Arabic countries. Way back in 1974 the game of Kabaddi has been introduced to Sri Lanka. SL team has participated in the SAF Games in 1993 as the first international meet.

SLAF won the first ever National Championship organized by the Sri Lanka Amateur Kabaddi Federation in 1994 and thereafter SLAF Men and Women Kabaddi teams have won many championships and trophies including the National Championship last year.

More than 40 Kabaddi coaches, Referees and Officials participated in this workshop including from Mullaittivu, Jaffna, and Trinco etc. Practical sessions were held at Pamunugama Beach at Ja-Ela and concluded. The Hon Secretary of SL Amateur Kabaddi Federation Mr. MT Fernando, the Hon Chairman of SL Army Kabaddi Sport Club Brigadier M Abampola, the Hon Chairman of SL Navy Kabaddi Sport Club Captain HD Hettiarachchi and the Hon Chairman of SLAF Kabaddi Gp Capt AJ Amarasinghe also graced the occasion.
