Leading Aircraftwoman Gomas BDH Returns with a Commonwealth Bronze Medal

Sri Lanka Air Force Weightlifters who represented Sri Lanka as part of the National Team at the Commonwealth Games 2018 at Gold Coast, Australia returned to the Island on 11th April 2018 to a rousing welcome at the Bandaranaike International Airport, Katunayake.

SLAF Woman Weightlifter, Leading Aircraftwoman (LAC) Gomes BDH won a Bronze Medal in 48Kg weight class category at the Weightlifting Championship which was held from 05th to 09th April 2018.

LAC Gomas BDH who is a product of Vadduwa Balika Vidyalaya and St’ Mary’s College, Wadduwa was enlisted to the SLAF Weightlifting Pool on the 26th March 2012. From the year 2015 she has represented the SLAF at National Weightlifting Championship Tournaments and Defence Service Games and has been a consitstent winner in her weight category (48 KG). Apart from these, she has also won the Bronze Medal at Commonwealth Weightlifting Championship in 2016 and 2017 consecutively.

Mr. IP Nandasena was her initial coach while presently she is undergoing her weightlifting training under the National Coach Mr. RB Wickramasinghe. She holds the Sri Lanka record in her weight category (48 KG) in the year 2018 as well.
