Air Force Vesak Bethi Gee Saraniya 2018

The SLAF Seva Vanitha Unit in collaboration with SLAF Station Colombo, staged ‘Vesak Bethi Gee Saraniya 2018’, on 2nd May 2018 at the ‘Rifle Green’ Grounds, SLAF Station Colombo.

The Chairperson of the Ministry of Defence Seva Vanitha Unit, Mrs. Shalini Waidyaratne, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. The Commander of the Air Force Air Marshal Kapila Jayampathy and Chairperson of the SLAF Seva Vanitha Unit, Mrs. Anoma Jayampathy received the Chief Guest. The event commenced with the Chief Guest switching on the lights of the SLAF Vesak Kalapaya.

‘Vesak Bethi Gee Saraniya 2018’ consisted of 13 famous soul-soothing songs sung by various artistes extolling the life and deeds of the Lord Buddha. The songs were sung by the SLAF Band which also enhanced the attractiveness of the evening. A special feature of the show was the ballet choreographed and performed by the SLAF Band showcasing the "Vessantara Jatakaya". On conclusion of the ‘Vesak Bethi Gee Saraniya 2018’ the Chief Guest was accompanied by the Chairperson of the SLAF SVU and the Commander to view the creative Air Force Vesak Lanterns on display at the grounds.

The Chief of Staff of SLAF Air Vice Marshal Sumangala Dias, Members of the Air Force Board of Management, their ladies, Officers, Other Ranks and their family members, serving at Air Force Headquarters, SLAF Station Colombo, SLAF Base Katunayake, SLAF Base Ratmalana and SLAF TTS Ekala attended the event.

In addition to the “Vesak Bathi Gee Saraniya”, the SLAF Seva Vanitha Unit organized an “Osupen Dansala” in front of the Rifle Green Grounds at SLAF Station Colombo. A traditional oil lamp was lit by the Chief Guest before declaring the Dansala open.
