MINUSCA 4th Contingent Medal Parade and Deputy Chief of staff’s Visit to Central African Republic

The 4th contingent of Sri Lanka Aviation Unit MINUSCA achieved another significant milestone on 12th September 2018 when it held its Medal Parade in glamour and style at the Contingent Premises in Bria, Central African Republic. MINUSCA Sector East Commander Brigadier General Adil Yamin graced the occasion as the chief guest. The Deputy Chief of Staff of Sri Lanka Air Force, Air Vice Marshal AM De Zoysa was also present on this occasion. Chief Aviation Officer in MINUSCA, Mr. Souleyman Doucoure, Head of the Office of MINUSCA Staff Bria and numerous other dignitaries were also present.

The distinguished guests were welcomed to the event in Sri Lankan traditional Kandyan Dancers. The magnificent “Drill Display” followed by a cultural show consisting of a ‘Devil Dance’, ‘Traditional Kandyan Dancing’ performance and the performances of the Sri Lanka Aviation Calypso Band were highly applauded by the visitors who witnessed a sample of the rich cultural heritage of Sri Lanka and the professionalism of the Sri Lankan Air Force personnel deployed in MINUSCA..

The Chief Guest and all other dignitaries praised the Sri Lanka Aviation Contingent for their professionalism and dedication shown throughout the tenure in MINUSCA.  Further, their speeches specially highlighted the fact that the Sri Lankan Aviation Contingent remains the only Aviation Unit in MINUSCA based out of the capital city of Bangui, which is a challenging and daunting venture. The day’s proceedings concluded after the group photograph with the chief guest which was followed by a social event.

The Deputy Chief of Staff of Sri Lanka Airforce, Air Vice Marshal AM De Zoysa declared open the newly built Officers’ Mess at Sri Lanka Aviation Contingent premises, Bria on 11th September 2018. Further, during the visit the Deputy Chief of Staff visited Sector Commander of Sector East for MINUSCA and Head of Office of MINUSCA for Sector East at the UN Sector Head Quarters. Further, Sri Lanka Aviation Contingent organized a drug donation campaign and a lunch for all the inward patients at local hospital Bria during the Deputy Chief of Staff’s visit.
