SLAF Launches 'Weather Buddy' Automated Weather Monitoring Systems at Air Fields

“Weather Buddy” Weather Station is an Automated Weather Station which consist of six (6) sensors namely Wind Direction, Wind Speed, Temperature, Pressure, Humidity and Rain Gauge. It is capable of transferring real time weather data to the indoor data receiving unit wirelessly. Further, weather details are uploaded to the internet server to enable the access of weather details anywhere in the world through the website or the android application. System is powered by rechargeable battery and a solar panel.  

The “Weather Buddy” Automated Weather Station which was developed by the Research and Development Laboratory at the Electronic and Telecommunication Engineering Wing SLAF Base Ratmalana was awarded with the Best Research Team Award for the year 2017.

On the advice of Commander of the Air Force, the Electronic and Telecommunication Engineering Wing has produced Six (6) Weather Stations and installed them at the following SLAF airfields at present.

  • SLAF Academy China Bay
  • SLAF Base Anuradhapura
  • SLAF Base Hingurakgoda
  • SLAF Station Palali
  • SLAF Station Katukurunda
  • SLAF Station Weerawila

It is planned to equip all SLAF Airfields with this weather station in future.
