SLAF Felicitates its Angampora Display Team

The SLAF Angampora Display Team who clinched the first ever Sri Lanka’s Got Talent Title on 30 September 2018 at the Grand Finale held at Stein Studios, Rathmalana, was felicitated at a ceremony held at Air Force Headquarters today (28 December 2018).  

The SLAF Angampora Team was established in 2012 on the initiative of former Commander of the Air Force, Air Chief Marshal Harsha Abeywickrama and nurtured by Ajantha Mahantharachchi. The initial intention of the induction of Angampora was to train personnel of the Regimental Special Forces.

Subsequently in 2014, an Angampora Display Team was inaugurated and it became a prominent item at Air Force events. With increasing demand, the display team became a regular item at most state events and ceremonies as well.

In order to make this secret and indigenous martial art popular among the general public, the Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Kapila Jayampathy with the blessing of Ministry of Defence, permitted the SLAF Angampora Display Team to contest in Sri Lanka's Got Talent Reality show which drew international attention towards Sri Lanka.

During the ceremony the Commander appreciated the hard work and dedication of the SLAF Angampora Display Team that led to winning the title and emphasized that this opportunity will open new avenues in the international arena to showcase Sri Lankan native talent.

The Chief of Staff, Air Vice Marshal Sumangala Dias, members of the Air Force Board of Management, the Chairman of SLAF Angampora, Air Commodore CB Labrooy, Director Sports, Air Commodore IK Weeraratne were present for this occasion.
