The 17th Commander of the Sri Lanka Air Force Assumes Duties at AFHQ

Air Marshal Sumangala Dias assumed duties as the 17th Commander of the Sir Lanka Air Force today (30 May 2019) at AFHQ. He was promoted to the three star rank of Air Marshal by the President of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, His Excellency Maithripala Sirisena in his capacity as the Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces yesterday (29 May 2019).

After being accorded a Guard of Honour by the Air Force Colour Wing, Air Marshal Sumangala Dias made his inaugural address to the entire Air Force as its 17th Commander. The address was streamed live to the entire Air Force enabling all Officers, Other Ranks and Civilians to witness the inaugural address.

In his inaugural address to the Air Force, Air Marshal Dias thanked the President, His Excellency Maithripala Sirisena for appointing him as the 17th Commander of the Air Force and expressed his belief that his appointment was a great responsibility placed on him.  He vowed to earn and to justify the trust placed in him. He also said that all members of the SLAF can be proud of where the organization is today after 68 years of protecting the skies above Sri Lanka.

He also spoke of the responsibility of the Air Force to face any and all threats that come before this great nation. He vowed to continue the support provided by the Air Force in helping the nation progress forward under a single flag, fostering brotherhood, reconciliation and peace as one nation.

He invited all Air Force personnel to join him to march forward, carrying the Air Force flag high, and extended his wishes of health, wealth and happiness to all officers, other ranks and civilian staff of the SLAF and the members of their families.
