New Command Master Warrant Officer Takes Over Duties

Master Warrant Officer SMNP Samarakoon took over duties as the Command Master Warrant Officer of the Sri Lanka Air Force under the auspices of the Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Sumangala Dias today (24 June 2019) at Air Force Headquarters.

The first ever Command Master Warrant Officer (CMWO) of the SLAF, Master Warrant Officer GGM Ranjith Kumara ceremonially handed over his appointment of Command Master Warrant Officer to Master Warrant Officer Samarakoon at the parade.

Master Warrant Officer Samarakoon joined the Sir Lanka Air Force on the 17th of November 1997 as an Operations Ground Tradesman. He successfully completed his Gunner Instructor Training in 2009 and his Drill Instructor Training in 2011. Before being appointed as the CMWO he served in the capacity of Regimental Warrant Officer at the Directorate of Ground Operations.

The CMWO appointment, the brainchild of Air Chief Marshal Kapila Jayampathy, was established on the 12th of July 2017.  The CMWO is the senior-most other ranker in the Air Force, and reports directly to the Commander of the Air Force.  He is vested with the overall responsibility for all aspects relating to the general administration and welfare of the Other Ranks and non-executive civilian employees of the SLAF.

Commander of the Air Force Air Marshal Sumangala Dias, Chief of Staff of the SLAF, Air Vice Marshal Sudarshana Pathirana, Members of the Air Force Board of Management, Officers, Other Ranks and civilians were present to witness the occasion.
