Change of Command at SLAF Base Katunayake

The Change of Command Parade of the Sri Lanka Air Force Base Katunayake was held yesterday (8 July 2019).

The outgoing Base Commander, Air Vice Marshal M D A P Payoe RWP, RSP, USP, MSc (NSWS-Pak), ndc (Pak), psc handed over duties to Air Commodore H S S Thuiyacontha WWV, RWP and two Bars, RSP and Bar, USP, MMSc (Strat Stu - China), MSc (Def Stu) in Mgt, MSc (Def & Strat Stu), fndu (China), psc.

Air Vice Marshal Payoe took over command of SLAF Base Katunayake on 10th January 2017. Prior to this, he served in the capacity of Commanding Officer of SLAF Station Colombo. Air Vice Marshal Payoe will be proceeding to Air Force Headquarters to take over the appointment of Director Training of the SLAF subsequently.

The New Base Commander of SLAF Base Katunayke, Air Commodore H S S Thuiyacontha previously held the appointment of Commandant Air Force Academy China Bay. He is a decorated and veteran helicopter pilot with experience in Mi 24, Bell 206 Jet Ranger, Bell 212 and Bell 412.

The ceremonial Handing Over/Taking Over Parade took place at the at the Base Parade Square and was commanded by Air Commodore SKA Senaratne.

The Outgoing Base Commander addressed the parade and all personnel of the Academy and thanked them for the support they had extended to him during his tenure as the Base Commander.
