Commander visits SLAF Iranamadu and SLAF Mulaitivu
4:52pm on Thursday 20th August 2009
Today the 20th of August 2009, the Commander of the Air Force carried out an inspection tour of SLAF Iranamadu and SLAF Muliativu the two newest Air Force deployments. Incidentally both these locations were utilized by the now destroyed LTTE to carry out their clandestine air activity. Both locations have runways built by the LTTE to operate light aircraft. When the terrorists were withdrawing in defeat, they damaged the surfaces of the runways to prevent them being used by the SLAF. These two locations will be rehabilitated and developed into SLAF stations with operational runways. The Commander inspected the development work being carried out and spoke to the Officers and Men and congratulated them on the rapid transformation of the area, and appreciated the high standards set by them under trying conditions. He was accompanied by Air Commodore Kishan Yahampath the Director of Ground Operations. SLAF Iranamadu is commanded by Squadron Leader Haley Rupasinghe whilst SLAF Mulaitivu is commanded by Squadron Leader Rajitha Gunasinghe.
