Command Procurement Division celebrates Formation Day

The main procuring entity of the Sri Lanka Air Force, the Command Procurement Division celebrated its second anniversary today, 01 April, 2011.

Celebrations commenced this morning with a pirith chanting ceremony in the morning hours at the Command Procurement Division, SLAF Colombo under the auspices of Ven. Kirinde Assagi Thero of Gangarama Temple.

The ceremony was attended by all Officers and men of the unit including the Director of Logistics, Air Commodore S Rambukwella, the Commanding Officer of SLAF Colombo, Air Commodore NHV Gunaratna and the senior officers of the logistic branch.

Religious activities were followed by an alms giving for the elders residing at the “Mawupiya Sevana” Elders’ Care Home, Maharagama. The elders were also presented with items of clothing by the SLAF personnel of the Command Procurement Division.

The division was formed in 2009, following a reorganization of the purchasing unit to ensure an effective procurement function for all spheres of the Air Force in catering to the operational and non-operational requirements efficiently and effectively. It includes several sub sections such as the Foreign Procurement Section, Local Procurement Section, Tender Section, Repair Section, Collection and Clearance Section (Foreign), Collection and Clearance Section (Local), Quotation Cell and Tender Monitoring Unit.

Air Commodore KAPS Anugulugaha was the first Command Procurement Officer who was the pioneer in establishing the new formation. Today the CPD functions under the command of Group Captain WMKSP Weerasinghe with a total strength of 196 Officers and 139 airmen.
