SLAF Regiment Katunayake emerge winners at Inter Unit Football Finals

SLAF Regiment Katunayake emerged winners at the Sri Lanka Air Force Inter Unit Football Finals beating SLAF Academy China Bay 4-2 at a penalty shootout this evening 1 April, 2011 at the City League Football Complex, Colombo 2.

Both teams tied with one goal each at half time and also at the end of the second half. The 2 goals for SLAF Katunayake were scored by LAC Ruwantha and LAC Wimalarathna while AC Sriyantha and Cpll Jayalath scored the 2 goals for SLAF China Bay.

This prompted a penalty shoot-out at the end of play where the footballers from Katunayake took a 2 point lead and ultimately were adjudged the winners of the championship.  AC Nanayakkara (SLAF Regiment Katunayake) was adjudged Best Player while AC Uzam of China Bay was adjudged the Best Goal Keeper of the tournament.

The Deputy CEO of Sri Lanka Football Federation, Mr. Anura De Silva was Chief Guest at the encounter. Director of Aeronautical Engineering and Chairman of SLAF Football, AVM Jayanath Kumarasiri and Secretary of SLAF Football, Group Captain Saman Kotage were also present at the final showdown between the best two football teams to emerge from the SLAF this year. Director of Ground Operations, Air Commodore Kishan Yahampath was amongst the distinguished guests who attended the event.
