Much Devotion for 12 Squadron Pirith Ceremony
Stepping away from their daily routine, personnel of 12 Squadron of the Sri Lanka Air Force congregated last week for a spiritual cause; an all night pirith chanting ceremony; held on 1 April 2011 to invoke the blessings of the Triple Gem.

15 Bikkhus participated at the pirith ceremony which was held at SLAF Base Katunayake with the patronage of Director of Air Operations, Air Vice Marshal Gagan Bulathsinghala. The event was held under the guidance of Commanding Officer of No 12 Sqaudron, Squadron Leader Asela Jayasekara.

All aspects of the event were effectively coordinated by Officer Commanding Maintenance, Wing Commander Sarada Mawitigama, Officer Commanding Operations Squadron Leader Krishantha Kapugama and Officer Commanding Training Squadron Leader Indika Premadasa.

The Base Commander of SLAF Base Kayunayake, Air Commodore Ranil Gurusinghe, Formation CO’s, pilots, engineering officers and other ranks participated in the event with much enthusiasm and devotion. Special blessings were evoked in the memory of the late Squadron Leader Monath Perera at the pirith ceremony. An alms giving was also held for the maha sangha the following morning.

Several voluntary contributions were made towards the event in many fronts, with notable assistance from SLAF Station Ekala and the Kalutara Bodhi Dayaka Sabha.
