Air Women Lift SLAF to a Higher Plane

The women of Sri Lanka Air Force proved that they could ‘pull their weight’ and more by clinching the 10th National weight Lifting Championship where they competed as a team for the very first time.
The tournament was held today (28th May 2011) at the Indoor Stadium of the University of Kelaniya with the participation of 10 teams. The SLAF bagged 3 Gold medals and 2 Silvers to win the seven weight class competition and collected 21 points.
The men’s will get their opportunity to show off as well when they compete (29th May 2011) at the same venue.
The winners and their achievements are as follows.
Air woman Rajapaksha RMNS was adjudge as the best female lifter of the tournament.
In the men’s encounter SLAF was placed second from amongst the 14 teams which participated with a bag full of 3 Gold, 2 Silvers and 2 Bronze medals inclusive of a new national record set by Aircraftsman Samarasekara in the 85 Kg weight class.
