4th Formation day of No 5 Air Defence Radar Squadron at SLAF Station Palavi

The 4th formation day of No 5 Air Defence Radar squadron at SLAF Station Palavi was commemorated recently. Since 24th May 2007 the squadron has been engaging in National Air Defence, providing a safety net across the western sky of our motherland.

With the blessings of the Commanding Officer of SLAF Palavi, Wg Cdr K Wannigama and the Commanding Officer, No 5 Air Defence Radar squadron Wg Cdr JMCR Jayasundara the officers and other rank of No 5 Air Defence Radar squadron and the IAF contingent engaged in various activities over a period of two days celebrating  the 4th anniversary of the Squadron.

The first of the series of activities was the ‘Shramadhana’ at the Buddhist Temple at Palavi on 23rd May 2011.On the same day evening a tree planting project was carried out as part of the formation day program.
On the formation day, with the view of improving the conviviality among the members of SLAF station Palavi, a volley ball tournament was organized with the participation of personnel of SLAF station Palavi and the members of the IAF contingent.  Station Commanding Officer Wg Cdr K Wannigama graced the occasion as the chief guest and presented valuable gifts to the winners of the tournament.

Finally to culminate all these activities, an annual get-together was organized with the participation of Wg Cdr K Wannigama as the Chief Guest. All the Officers of SLAF Station Palavi, Officers and servicemen of the IAF contingent, all the members of, No 5 Air Defence Radar squadron joined hands in comradeship during this celebration.
