A Special Dental Clinic and awareness programme

For the first time in the history of Sri Lanka a special dental clinic and awareness programme on oral health for the Maha Sanga was organized and conducted by the Sri Lanka Air Force under the blessings of the Mahanayakes’ of the Asgiri and Malwatta chapters, and under the guidance of the Hon. Pradeep Nilanga Dela Bandara, Diyawadana Nilame and Air Marshal Harsha Abeywickrama, Commander of the Air Force on 21st and 22nd June in 2011 at Ran Auda Mandapaya, Sri Dalada Maligawa, Kandy.

This programme was specially conducted to commemorate the 2600th Sambudda  Jayanthiya which was celebrated in May 2011.

The programme which  included both curative and preventive care, was headed by the Air Vice Marshal Asoka Amunugama, Director Dental Services, who was well supported by the SLAF Dental Officers and the Dental staff.

Over nine hundred treatment were carried out in the curative section which was equipped with the latest technology to carry out all the possible treatment modalities. A special guest lecture was delivered by Dr. Hemantha Amerasinghe, Consultant in Community Dentistry, and National Cancer Control Programme on the subject of Oral Cancer, which is strongly related to the betel chewing habit. Also s series of lectures on common oral diseases and their prevention was conducted by the dental officers. All the participants were given a complementary pack which consisted of products useful to uplift personal oral health.
