SLAF Fire fighters Avert Major Catastrophe by Curtailing Fire In Hingurakgoda

Fire fighters of Sri Lanka Air Force Base  Hingurakgoda extinguished a fire which erupted at a commercial building in the Hingurakgoda town at approximately 1530 hrs on 18 November 2011.
 
This building was an multi-storied shopping complex which is situated in the heart of Hingurakgoda town. The fire initiated in a general warehouse which is situated on an upper floor of the building complex and the flames had spread to the adjoining Damro building and destroyed a part of the property and the building as well.
 
SLAF Base fire vehicles moved to the location on the directions of the Director Air Operations, AVM GP Bulathsinghala to douse the fire immediately and SLAF fire fighters were able to prevent the  fire spreading further and thus saved shops on either side from being engulfed by the fire.
 
Squadron Leader U Rajapathiranna, Flight Sergeant Gunathilaka AGLS and fire fighters from SLAF Base Hingurakgoda were actively involved in dousing the fire on the direction of Acting Base Commander Wing Commander KSN Perera.
 
The traders express their gratitude to the SLAF for the prompt action taken in controlling the fire and preventing a major catastrophe and for safe guarding valuable property and human life.
