For the first time in the history of Sri Lanka a special Dental clinic and awareness programme on Oral Health for the indigenous people was organized and conducted by the Sri Lanka Air Force under the guidance of Air Marshal Harsha Abeywickrama Commander of the Air Force and Head of the Indigenous people, Vishwa Keerthi Vanaspathy Uruwarige Wannillaaththo on 19th and 20th January in 2012 at Dambana Kanishta Vidyalaya.

The programme which included both curative and preventive care was headed by the Air Vice Marshal Asoka Amunugama, Director Dental Services who was well supported by the SLAF Dental officers and the Dental Staff.

Special screening programme was also conducted to identify oral cancers and patients with precancerous lesions and oral cancer patients were referred to respective consultant at Government Hospitals. Ration packs consisting of essential food items were distributed among the poor families.
