Aviation Medicine Specialists
The Aerospace Medicine Specialist examines personnel requiring special medical care standards to determine fitness for flying and special duties, or to recommend continuance, removal or return to flying status and aviation service. Responsibilities include managing disorders and injuries peculiar to flight, and serving as liaison between flying squadrons and medical services.

Aerospace Medicine Specialists provide medical support to operational missions and serve as staff advisor to flying squadron commander. They regularly participate in flying mission to observe and advise on aero medical problems, developing and managing an aggressive preventive medicine program, including the education of flying personnel in healthy lifestyles. Aerospace Medicine Specialists establish procedures for managing casualties in aviation accidents and other disasters, provide advice on air rescue and aero medical evacuation, and serve on aviation mishap investigation boards.
