SLAF MEN AND WOMEN CLAIM TOP HONOURS AT MUNCHEE SUPER LEAGUE VOLLEYBALL CHAMPIONSHIP 2022
SLAF Men’s and Women’s claimed the top honours at the Munchee Super League Volleyball Championship 2022 at National Youth Services Council Indoor Stadium, Maharagama, yesterday (28 August 2022).

SLAF Men defeated Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) 3-0 in the crucial "Super League Men's Final" match, dominating from the opening whistle. The opening set ended with a close 27-25 victory for Air Force, who were in attack mode straight on to grab a 13-10 lead and beat off a furious challenge from Ceylon Electricity Board. The Airmen maintained control of Ceylon Electricity Board and cruised to a 25-22 victory to take a 2-0 lead.

The Airmen had a tough start to the decisive third set, dropping back-to-back points, nevertheless they maintained their concentration to take the set 25-21 and the victory. Mahela Indeewara, the playmaker for the Air Force, had a brilliant performance and was awarded the most valuable player.

In the women's match, the Airwomen battled from a lead to defeat the Sri Lanka Army 3-1. Sri Lanka Army dominated the first set, winning it 17-25. However, they were unable to keep up their momentum and the Airwomen responded to win the following three sets (25-21, 25-23, and 25-20) to secure the victory ultimately. Anusha Abeysinghe of SLAF was crowned the most valuable player.     

Minister of Sports, Hon. Roshan Ranasinghe and Chairman of the National Sports Council, Hon. Arjuna Ranatunga graced the occasion as special guests and presented the awards.
