The selected few who join the Aeronautical and General Engineering Branch of the Sri Lanka Air Force become part of one of the most technical branches in Sri Lanka. The Sri Lanka Air Force being a highly technical military force is mainly tasked with the management of its extremely valuable aircraft fleet. The Officers of this branch get the opportunity to serve in both Aeronautical Engineering and General Engineering environments.
After initial Basic Combat Training, Officer Cadets selected for the Aeronautical and General Engineering Branch will have to under go Basic Administration and specialized branch training at the SLAF Academy in China Bay before passing out as a Commissioned Officer in the rank of Pilot Officer. This Branch also recruits Officers through Direct Entry applications as well as through the General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University.
An Officer of the Aeronautical and General Engineering Branch will have the rare opportunity of serving in a operational Flying Squadron of the SLAF where hi will gain hands on experience on aircraft maintenance. The future of an Officer is filled with opportunities to go overseas to be trained on engineering matter in general and on aircraft specific matters as well.
