a. Description about the Dental Assistant – Dental Assistant is the professional who assist Dental Surgeon in Surgical, Restorative, Orthodontic and Preventive treatment procedures.

b. Duties and responsibilities – Ensuring that clinical procedures run smoothly and patients feel at ease. Their roll is a unique blend of patient care, Laboratory work, and administrative support.

c. Career progression and Future prospects – Carrier progression is available in the fields of Advance Dental Assistants, Dental Technician, Dental Therapist, Dental Bio Medical Technician and Theatre Technician through Local and Overseas courses. Selected Dental Assistants can follow Overseas Courses and Higher Diploma Course at Dental Auxiliary Training School, Faculty of Dental Sciences, University of Peradeniya and Dental Therapist School.

Passes in 06 subjects at the GCE (O/L) Examination in not more than two sittings including Simple (S) pass in English language and Credit passes in Sinhala / Tamil language, Mathematics, Science and one other subject.

Pearson Edexcel International General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE) exam or Cambridge International Ordinary Level exams: Passes in 06 subjects including English in not more than two sittings. Grades are compulsory for all Science subjects (Physics, Chemistry, and Biology), Mathematics and for one other subject. The marks obtained for a grading to be (equal or above) the lowest marks required for a credit pass in GCE O/Ls.

GCE A/L REQUIREMENTS

Having three passes at the GCE (A/L) Examination in any stream preferably in Bio Stream in one sitting will be an added advantage.
