ABOUT THE AERO ELECTRICAL AND INSTRUMENT TECHNICIAN

Description 

The Aero Electrical & Instrument Technician is a specialized aeronautical tradesman responsible for the inspection, maintenance, troubleshooting, and calibration of aircraft electrical systems, instrumentation, and associated components. This includes aircraft power generation and distribution systems, wiring, lighting systems, cockpit instruments, sensors and monitoring systems. The trade is critical to ensuring accurate system indication, safe aircraft operation and mission effectiveness and they operate within flying squadrons, maintenance units and specialized workshops, supporting both flight line operations and deeper maintenance activities under the supervision of supervision of Aeronautical Engineering officers.

Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Electrical and instrument system maintenance
  • Fault diagnosis and troubleshooting
  • Testing and calibration of components/ special tools and equipment
  • Installation and modification of aircraft components/ systems
  • Ground handling and safety procedures
  • Tool and equipment management
  • Documentation and record maintenance

GCE O/L REQUIREMENTS
Passes in 06 subjects at the GCE (O/L) Examination in not more than two sittings, including Simple (S) passes in Sinhala or Tamil, English language. Furthermore, a Credit (C) pass for Mathematics or Science is mandatory.

Pearson Edexcel International General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE) exam or Cambridge International Ordinary Level exams Passes in 06 subjects in not more than two sittings including English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology. Furthermore, a grading having marks equivalent or higher than a credit pass in GCE O/L for Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Mathematics is mandatory.

While inducting personnel to Aero Electrical & Instrument Trade, priority would be given to personnel who have successfully completed a two (02) years fulltime National Certificate Course in Engineering Craft Practice (Electronics / Electrical) at a Technical College recognized by the Ministry of Vocational and Technical Training or equivalent. Further, candidates with NVQ level qualification / training on mechanical subjects from a reputed institute and work experience would be an added advantage while considering for Air Frame and Aero Engine trades.
