Progress of No. 62 JC&SC Course

Graduation Ceremony of No 62 Junior Command and Staff Course

The Graduation Ceremony of the No 62 Junior Command and Staff Course was held at the Astra Hall, Academy China Bay on 27 November 2019.

Air Vice Marshal WLRP Rodrigo, Director Ground Operations graced the ceremony as the Chief Guest. Indian Defence Attaché and delegates from the SL Army and SL Navy were among distinguished invitees.

The ceremony marked the end of an 11-week long course attended by a total of 30 Officers. 25 officers from the Sri Lanka Air Force in the ranks of Squadron Leader and Flight Lieutenant, 1 officer from the Sri Lanka Navy in the rank of Lieutenant and one officer each from friendly foreign nation Air Forces,  Bangladesh , India, Pakistan and China.

The JC&SC is accredited to the University of Kelaniya and the Officers who fulfilled the required criteria were offered with a Post Graduate Diploma in Defence Management.

A Guest Night was held at the Officers’ Mess to mark the Graduation with the participation of Commandant, Director Academic Studies. Registrar, Faculty Members of the Junior Command and Staff College, graduates and their beloved wives.

Pakistan Country Presentation of No. 62 JC&SC

The country presentation of the Pakistan Student, Sqn Ldr Waqas Javed of No. 62 Junior Command and Staff Course was held on 20 November 2019 at the Auditorium of Junior Command and Staff College, Sri Lanka Air Force Academy, China Bay.

The overall aim of this presentation is to avail the opportunity for Students Officers to present about their motherland in front of an audience representing different countries.


The Course Visit of No 62 JC&SC

With the aim of enhancing and to give firsthand experience on the operational functions of different organizations, a series of visits were conducted to Air Force and outside organizations.

The Student Officers accompanied by Directing Staff member visited Colombo Dockyard, Sri Lankan Airlines Katunayake, Disaster Management Centre and Defense Services Command and Staff College from 14 to 15 November 2019.


Indian Country Presentation of No. 62 JC&SC

The Country presentation of the Indian Student Officer, Flt Lt TB Reddy of the No. 62 Junior Command and Staff Course was held on 19 November 2019 at the Auditorium of the Junior Command and Staff College, Sri Lanka Air Force Academy, China Bay.

China Country Presentation of No. 62 JC&SC

The Country presentation of Chinese Student Officer, Lieutenant Liu Chungping of the No. 62 Junior Command and Staff Course was held on 18 November 2019 at the Auditorium of the Junior Command and Staff College, Sri Lanka Air Force Academy, China Bay.

The overall aim of this presentation is to avail the opportunity for Student Officers to present about their motherland in front of an audience representing different countries.


Visit to Navy Dockyard Trincomalee

A Course visit was conducted to the SL Navy Dockyard in Trincomalee on 17 November 2019, in view of giving the understanding for Student Officers on the role and task and to witness the fleet of the Sri Lanka Navy.

The overall aim of this visit is to enhance the knowledge of Student Officers of JC&S Course and to develop relationship and interaction between military organizations.


International Humanitarian Law Module
 
A workshop covering Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law (IHL) was successfully concluded at the Centre for Studies of Human Rights, University of Colombo from 11 November 2019 to 13 November 2019.


Bangladesh Country Presentation Of No. 62 JC&SC

The Country presentation of the Bangladesh Student Officer of No.62 Junior Command and Staff Course was held on the 7th of November 2019 at the Auditorium of Junior Command and Staff College, Sri Lanka Air Force Academy, China Bay.

Sri Lankan Country Presentation of No. 62 JC&SC

The country presentation of the Sri Lankan Student Officers of No. 62 Junior Command and Staff Course was held on 5th of November 2019 at the Auditorium of Junior Command and Staff College, Sri Lanka Air Force Academy, China Bay. The Commandant of the Air force Academy China Bay grace the occasion as the Chief Guest.

The overall aim of this presentation is to avail the opportunity for the Students Officers to present about their motherland in front of an audience representing different countries.


Practice Dining Night of the No 62 JC&S Course

As per the programme, the “Practice Dining Night” of the No 62 JC&S Course was conducted on the 4th of November 2019 at the Officers’ Mess of SLAF Academy China Bay with the participation of 30 Student Officers including 4 Foreign Officers and Directing/ Permanent Staff including the Commanding Officer.

The function was conducted as per the guidelines on conducting a Dinning Night with the presence of the Programme Band in order to convey the correct understanding to the Student Officers on the procedure of formal dining.


The Wartime Application Module

The Wartime Application module was conducted on 4 November 2019 for the Student Officers of No. 62 Junior Command & Staff Course.

The Wartime Application Module is designed to educate the Student Officers on Air Power Application as per taxonomy and contribution of SLAF towards the successful completion of ‘North and East Humanitarian Operations’. The lectures were conducted in the form of interactive sessions to give the opportunity to share the experiences. A separate central discussion was held at the end of the lectures for the students to clarify their doubts with the participation of all specialist Officers who conducted lectures during the day.


The Air Power Module Was Successfully Completed

The Air Power module was successfully completed with the exercise of “Neighbourland” on 01 November 2019. Lectures and syndicate discussions were conducted on National Strategy, Nation and War, Doctrine, Air Power and formal appreciation writing prior to the exercise from 21 October 2019.

During the exercise Student Officers in 4 Sub Syndicates got the opportunity to write appreciations on a conflict between two countries on a fictitious setting.  The Student Officers were also given the chance to discuss and defend their Air Plans in a common forum with the participation of all 4 Sub Syndicates members on the last day of the exercise.

The overall aim was achieved as the Student Officers effectively planned and briefed the appreciations and air operation plans with the guidance and supervision of the Directing Staff.

The following day Student Officers completed the writing of Operations Order individually taking into consideration the given outline plan (a comprehensive plan was given to students based on their final submissions of the exercise).


Course Picnic of the No 62 JC&SC Course

The ‘Course Picnic’ of the No 62 Junior Command and Staff Course was held at the Corral beach at Naval and Maritime Academy Trincomalee on 20 October 2019. The course picnic gives the Student Officers and Directing Staff the opportunity for interaction, leisure and entertainment. 

A committee including a Sponsor DS and Student Officers was nominated to organize the event and to forward a proposal for the event. This gave the exposure for the Student Officers to find suitable locations, select menus and other requirements according to their budget and to plan different entertainment/ team building activities during the picnic.


Mock conference of no. 62 JC&SC

The exercise Mock Conference of No.62 Junior Command and Staff Course, a part of the Administration Module was held on 15 October 2019 at the Academy Conference Hall, Sri Lanka Air Force Academy, China Bay.

This exercise will help to Students to get the exposure of a conference with the attendance of relevant appointments holders of the Station. After the conference, the Student Officers wrote the minutes of the conference as an assessed exercise of the Module.


No. 62 Junior Command and Staff Course Commences

The No. 62 Junior Command and Staff Course commenced today (23 September 2019) at the Junior Command and Staff College, Sri Lanka Air Force Academy, China Bay. The Director Training, AVM MDAP Payoe attended the Opening Address as the Chief Guest upon the invitation of the Commanding Officer, Group Captain SDGM Silva.  The Chief Instructor and Senior Instructor also briefed the Student Officers about important aspects of the Course. The Student Officers were also given the opportunity for self introductions.

Twenty Five (25) Sri Lanka Air Force Officers, an Officer from the Sri Lanka Navy and an officer each from Bangladesh Air Force, Indian Air Force, Pakistan Air Force and Republic of China Army Air Force reported to follow the course scheduled for a duration of 14 weeks (23 September 2019 to 17 December 2019).
