Marian Goonetileke Scholarship Fund
The Sri Lanka Air Force Seva Vanitha Unit launched the Marian Goonetilke Scholarship Fund on 11th December 2006 having realized the needs of the children of war-heroes of the Sri Lanka Air Force to support and peruse with their higher education. The SVU considers themselves privileged to take up this social obligation for the children of heroes, who answered the nation’s call.

Through this the SLAF SVU believes they could be a tower of strength to those needy children who could lean on for their psychological, educational and social needs.

Marian Goonetileke Scholarship Fund is intended to provide educational scholarships for children and families of war heroes, service personnel and civilians serving in the air force. Marian Goonetileke Scholarship Fund is one of the attractive projects and SLAF SVU was able to achieve the landmark of 300th scholarship at the end of 2009.

Pre-school Projects
Seva Vanitha Unit is also making a concerted effort to uplift the standards of education in the pre-schools in Katunayake, Anuradhapura, Diyatalawa, Colombo, Ratmalana, Chinabay and Vavuniya to International Standards.

Considering the fact that SLAF Base Katunayake houses the largest number of serving personnel at present, as a pilot project the pre-school at SLAF Base Katunayake was selected. The construction of new building to house the pre- school was begun under the auspices of the Commander of the Air Force. This new building was inaugurated by the 1st lady Madam Shiranthi Rajapakse on 29th January 2008.

An entirely new syllabus and a curriculum with an improved environment on par with International standards were introduced. The Chairperson Mrs. Nelun Goonetileke herself has planned and designed a set of pre-school books using her expertise and experience as a teacher and mother to enhance the phases of early childhood development. These set of books were launched on 11th March 2008.
