Welfare Activities within Sri Lanka Air Force

Objectives of the welfare projects or activities are to offer support to service personnel and their families to improve their living conditions and morale. Welfare activities are considered an important aspect since these service personnel have been sacrificing their personal comforts, commitments and risking their lives to safeguard the sovereignty and the territorial integrity of the country. Welfare activities are not only for the service personnel. They are also for the families of service personnel who are killed-in-action, missing-in-action and service personnel wounded-in-action and their families.   
  • Supports and coordinates children's school admissions and schools transfer giving priorities as required.     
  • Organization of relevant training courses and workshops to support disabled service personnel for their future carriers or to be utilized in the airforce.     
  • Issuing of special identity cards to for disabled service personnel and to the families of deceased personnel.     
  • Provision of recreational facilities and organization of recreational activities such as sporting events, theme parks etc for disabled personnel and their families and also for families of deceased personnel.     
  • Mobile units that reach to pre-determined locations and provide medical, legal, administrative and other necessary support on behalf of SLAF.     
  • SLAF liaises with National Housing Development Authority to provide housing and land facilities for service personnel and their families.
  • Financial Assistance           
    • Loans or grants for disabled service personnel           
    • Fund Raising projects for Central welfare and rehabilitation fund           
    • Death Donations and benefits to families who have lost a family member.           
    • Other loans such as housing, vehicle, distress loans
  • Conducting memorial services to tribute and honour the service of deceased service personnel.     
  • Welfare shops are located in every camp. These shops provide the facility to purchase households goods on a discounted price.     
  • Legal advices are provided or directed to councilors when necessary.     
  • Telephone and other utility requests are coordinate with utility suppliers directly.     
  • Requests for financial assistance for health issues such as operations (eg. heart bypass, kidney transplants) are directed to donors.     
  • Service personnel and their families and friends can spend their vacations at the comfortable holiday homes that are located in quiet countryside/Oceanside neighborhood.
