Assistance to Required Personnel

Broader objective of AFSVU is to elevate the hardships faced by the families of deceased, disabled and serving service and civil personnel of the Sri Lanka Air Force by way of conducting various programmes to develop social, economical and general living standards and outline of them are as follows.

a. This Unit provide its assistance to grant a relief for their financial burden faced by the targeted group of people by way of granting interest free loans for immediate medical assistance for critical illnesses of a family member who are not covered by the insurance scheme of individual, self-employment of an unemployed spouse and construction/ renovation of a house and redeem stagnated loan balances.

b. Providing of financial assistance for the education of children of personnel who were Killed in Action/ Disabled in Action and personnel in extreme needy nature due to various grievances. Also, the financial assistance is provided for the serving service and civil personnel who are having children with special needs.

c. In addition, the higher performance of Grade 5 Scholarship, G.C.E. O/L and G.C.E. A/L of serving service and civil personnel are appreciated and the child births of serving service and civil personnel are encouraged by way of cash gifts.

The series of programmes in par with ‘International Women’s Day’, SLAF Seva Vanitha Unit conducted a blood donation campaign at the SLAF Base Hingurakgoda today (09th March 2022) under the guidance of the Chairperson SLAF Seva Vanitha Unit Mrs. Charmini Pathirana. The event was organized under the supervision of Base Commander SLAF Base Hingurakgoda, Group Captain Senaka Kulathunga.



“Guwan Gunadam” a novel concept which is pioneered by the Chairperson SLAF Seva Vanitha Unit, Mrs. Charmini Pathirana and under the guidance of the Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Sudarshana Pathirana in view of uplifting the living standards of the civil employees who are serving in Sri Lanka Air Force establishments.  


Seva Vanitha Unit at SLAF Station Iranamadu donated school needs for  students of Alagapuri Primary School -  Ramanathapuram, on 20 February 2022 as a community service project which was carried out under the supervision of Commanding Officer SLAF Station Iranamadu, Group Captain Rukman Dassanayake .

The Sri Lanka Air Force Station Colombo officially handed over the renovated Ward No.3 of National Institute of Mental Health, Half-way Home Mulleriyawa and also conducted a special donation programme yesterday (15 February 2022). Essential commodities for patients were donated to the Hospital staff. The project was carried out under the guidance of the Chairperson of SLAF Seva Vanitha Unit, Mrs. Charmini Pathirana and on the instructions of the Commanding Officer SLAF Station Colombo, Air Vice Marshal Dilshan Wasage.


Under the guidance of the Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Sudarshana Pathirana and Chairperson of the SLAF Seva Vanitha Unit, Mrs. Charmini Pathirana, a special programme was conducted on yesterday (04 January 2022) to distribute gift packs to school children of SLAF personnel who made their supreme sacrifice to the nation. The symbolic donation of gift packs was carried out at the Seva Vanitha Unit, Air Force Headquarters and the event was graced by the Chairperson.
