COMMISSIONING CEREMONY OF COURSE NO. 79 STUDENT OFFICERS
The Commissioning Ceremony of Course No. 79 Student Officers was held on 12 November 2025 at SLAF Academy China Bay. The course comprised 14 Male Student Officers and five Lady Student Officers, who successfully completed three weeks of Basic Combat Training at the Combat Training School Diyatalawa, followed by four weeks of the Administrative Module at the Ground Training Wing, SLAF Academy China Bay.
Deputy Chief of Staff, Air Vice Marshal Demian Weerasinghe, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. In his address, he congratulated the newly commissioned Officers and highlighted the significance of the day, noting that commissioning is not merely a ceremonial milestone, but a moment that reflects their dedication, rigorous training, and unwavering commitment to serve the nation. He emphasized that they join the officer cadre of the SLAF as custodians of its proud traditions—courage, integrity and professionalism.
The course was conducted under the guidance of the Commandant of SLAF Academy China Bay, Air Commodore Amal Perera, and the Commanding Officer of the Ground Training Wing, Group Captain Lasantha Liyanahetti. The ceremony was organised and conducted by the Chief Instructor of the Ground Training Wing, Squadron Leader SMVALV Vidanaarachchi.
