The International Military Sport Council (CISM) Day Run

The International Military Sport Council (CISM) Day Run was held at the Independence Square on 19th February 2012. Tri Services Commanders, Commander of the Army Lieutenant General  Jagath  Jayasuriya,Commander of the Navy Vice Admiral DWAS Dissanayake and Commander of the Air Force Air  Marshal Harsha Abeywickrama initiated the run.

One hundred personnel from each service, were participate in this inaugural ‘CISM Day Run’ which covered the distance of about 4 km in Colombo 7 area.

Founded on the 18th of February 1948, the International Military Sport Council (CISM) which has its General Secretariat located in Brussels under the management of the Secretary General is one of the largest multidisciplinary organizations in the world. CISM organizes various sporting events for the armed forces of 133 member’s countries, who may previously have met on the battle field, now would meet in friendship on the sports playing field. This is in accordance with the philosophy and the ideals which were set in CISM’s mission statement in 1998, signed by all the member countries. The ultimate goal of CISM is to contribute to world peace by uniting armed forces through sports. The motto under which it operates is “Friendship through Sport”.

Chief of Staff Air Vice Marshal KA Gunatilleke, Director Welfare Air Vice Marshal WA Silva were among the guests invitees whilst Chairman SLAF Athletics Air Commodore Ajith Abeysekara were also present at the event.
