No 111 UAV Squadron Celebrates its 7th Anniversary

No 111 Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Squadron at SLAF Base Vavuniya celebrated its 7th anniversary on 01 June 2015.  The initial batch of UAVs was inducted in the year 1996 and No 11 UAV Squadron was formed at SLAF Base Vavuniya. Subsequently, the squadron was remodeled as No 111 and No 112 UAV Squadrons on 01 June 2008.  During the concluded “Humanitarian Operation”, the No 111 UAV Squadron extensively used its Searcher MK II UAVs over LTTE controlled terrain providing real time intelligence and surveillance necessities.

In view of celebrating its 7th anniversary, a “Shramadana” Campaign was conducted at The Mentally Retarded Children’s Home at Saliyapura on 29 May 2015 with the participation of all officers and airmen of the squadron.

The formation day parade was held on 01 June 2015 and the “Airman of the year” award was awarded to 23320 Sgt Ranasinghe HADW (E & I) whilst three merit certificates were presented to 29094 Cpl Meetiyagoda TAIM (Air Radio), 30328 Cpl Gunasekara GDS (Gen Mech) and 37646 LAC Indika MHRP (Ops Guard) in appreciation of their contribution towards the Squadron during the year 2014 by Wg Cdr RMT Rajapakshe, the Commanding Officer.

A cricket tournament with the participation of all ranks of the formation followed graced by the Base Commander, SLAF Base Vavuniya, Air Cdre DK Wanigasooriya
