No 12 and 13 Regimental Special Force Basic Courses Pass Out at Morawewa

The Passing Out Parade of the No 12 and No 13 Regimental Special Force Basic Courses was held at Sri Lanka Air Force Station Morawewa today (20 December 2018). The founder of the Regimental Special Force, the Commander of Sri Lanka Air Force, Air Marshal Kapila Jayampathy graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. The Chief of Staff, Air Vice Marshal Sumangla Dias, members of the Air Force Board of Management, Senior Officers of the Tri Services were also among the distinguished guests present today to witness the Passing Out Parade.

Trainees who are to be selected to enter the RSF Wing, have to undergo a training of 7 months at SLAF Station Morawewa followed by a 2 month training at Sri Lanka Army Special Force Camp, Maduruoya. A total 84 personnel comprising of 4 Officers and 80 Airmen received their RSF Badges form the Commander, the Chief of Staff and the Director Ground Operations.

For the first time in the history of the Air Force the iconic “Black Berets” specific to Special Forces were placed on the Officers and Airmen by their mothers bringing in an emotional sense of pride to the parade.

Subsequent to the parade, there were demonstrations on Unarmed Combat, recapture of a camp and on how to rescue those trapped in buildings. Further, the Regiment Special Forces displayed their special capabilities in the form of a parachute display and a motor riding display.

Flying Officer DMCAK Bandaranayake and Leading Aircraftman Karunarathna KMPP were adjudged the Best Marksmen of the No 12 and 13 Courses respectively. Leading Aircraftman Madushanka KL was adjudged the Best in Physical Fitness and the Best Student of No 12 Course. Leading Aircraftman Edirisinghe EDGBK and Flight Lieutenant EMCD Budumuththawa were adjudged the Best in Physical Fitness and the Best Student of No 13 Course respectively.

Commanding Officer of Sir Lanka Air Force Station Morawewa, Commanding Officer of RSF Wing, other ranks, joined the proud parents of the trainees to witness the Passing Out Parade.  

Sri Lanka Air Force stands as the sole gallant aerial force in the nation, skillfully projecting airpower over its airspace and supporting the operations of surface entities.
