Community Service Programme by Sri Lanka Aviation Unit in South Sudan

The 4th Contingent of Sri Lanka Aviation Unit in UNMISS organized a Community Service Programme at the Children’s Orphanage in Bor, Jonglei a state of South Sudan. This Community Service Programme was organized under directions of the present Contingent Commander, Group Captain Senaka Kulathunga in commemoration of the 72nd Independence Day of Sri Lanka.

This Children’s Orphanage was initially established in 2015 and at present provides shelter and protection for approximately 55 Orphans. On request of the Management of the Orphanage a 2.8 KVA Generator was donated to the Children’s Orphanage by the Sri Lanka Aviation Unit.

The official ceremony was held on 6th February 2020 and the Minister of Child Education and Social Services in South Sudan, Ms. Deborah Schein (Head of Field Office of UN), Mr. Liban Hajji (Field Administrative Officer of UN) and some Officials from the Office for Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) and United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) graced this occasion as distinguished guests.

In addition to the Generator, some urgently required food items, sports equipment and school equipment were donated to the Children.
