Sri Lanka Air Force Modifies MI 17 as an Air Ambulance

On the instructions of the Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Sumangala Dias and under the supervision of the Director Aeronautical Engineering, the No 6 Helicopter Squadron has modified an MI-17 Helicopter as an Air Ambulance.

The modified helicopter is capable of air lifting 12 patients at a time and is equipped with twelve beds. An aircrew and medial crew is on standby at SLAF Katunayake to cater for any urgent requirements in transferring patients effected by COVID-19.

Sri Lanka Air Force, is the only aerial arm among the Sri Lanka Armed Forces, responsible for defending the nation's airspace and supporting its sister services for all kind of operations.
