SLAF Conducts Combined Crash and Fire Drill at Trincomalee

On the instructions of the Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Sumangala Dias and on the directives given by the Director Air Operations, Air Vice Marshal PDKT Jayasinghe, a combined Crash and Fire Drill was conducted by SLAF Academy China Bay and SLAF Station Morawewa today (30 July 2020).

The exercise was conducted together with the Fire Sections, Disaster Assistance and Response Teams, Regimental Special Force Teams, Medical and Provost Elements of both SLAF Academy China Bay and SLAF Station Morawewa.

A simulation of a Y-12 aircraft flying with twelve passengers, having had to execute a forced landing to an abandoned tank in Muthaliakulam area in Trimcomalee was carried out. This was in order to rehearse and asses the response of respective elements in a live situation. The exercise was executed and successfully concluded under the overall supervision and guidance of the Commandant of SLAF Academy China Bay, Air Vice Marshal RAUP Rajapaksa and the Commanding Officer of SLAF Station Morawewa, Group Captain HTH Dharmadasa.
