SLAF WOMEN'S CRICKET TEAM VICTORIOUS IN DEFENCE SERVICES CRICKET TOURNAMENT-2023

The SLAF Women’s Cricket Team secured the Championship for the second consecutive time in the Defence Services Cricket Women’s Tournament concluded yesterday (28 July 2023) after a toe-to-toe effort of 181 runs by 04 wickets against Army Sports Club at the SLAF Cricket Ground, Katunayake.

Army Sports Club won the toss and batted first, scoring 179 runs for 09 wickets in 50 overs, including half centuries from Imalka Mendis (52) and Nilakshi Silva (39).

SLAF Sports Club reached the target in the 48.4th over of the inning and lost only 06 wickets. The SLAF women’s team excels not only in batting but also in the field. SLAF Sports Club scored 181 runs in 48.4 overs. The top scorers were Coporal Dilani Manodara with 92 runs, Sergeant Oshadi Ranasinghe with 34 runs and Coporal Ama Kanchana with 20 runs. The partnership between Dilani Manodara and Oshadi Ranasinghe led to the match's victory. Chamari Pologampala tapped the bowling with excellent figures of 03 wickets for 34 runs and Malsha Shehani took 2 wickets for 33 runs. Meanwhile, Oshadi Ranasinghe and Tharuka Shehani received 02 wickets each.

Base Commander SLAF Base Katunayake, Air Vice Marshal LH Sumanaweera, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Chairman SLAF Cricket, Group Caption SP Jayasinghe, Chairman SL Army Cricket Committee, Major General WBSM Abeysekara, officers and other ranks  participated at the occasion.
