The newly established automated Rice Mill at Sri Lanka Air Force Morawewa commenced its operational activities  today (24 October 2023). Installation of this new Rice Mill was done under the guidance and the assistance of the Commander of the Air Force Air Marshal Udeni Rajapaksa.

The initial operations were inspected by the Commandant Sri Lanka Air Force Academy China bay, Air Commodore Dhammika Dias along with the Commanding Officer Sri Lanka Air Force Station Morawewa Group Captain, Hemantha Balasooriya, Officers and a cross section of the other ranks and civil personnel of Sri Lanka Air Force Station Morawewa. This event marks another milestone in the enhancement of rice production in Sri Lanka Air Force.

Previously, Morawewa Rice varieties were produced for Sri Lanka Air Force establishments by using parboiling Rice Mill which was inaugurated on 10 May 2018.

This newly installed automated Rice Mill is capable of converting 1000 Kg of paddy as Rice within an hour using lesser man power. This project is aiming to buy more paddy from rural farmers around the Morawewa area for reasonable prices as a CSR activity.

The operation of this automated Rice Mill will not only improve the well-being of the rural farmers in Morawewa area but also increase the profits through more efficient and improved quality and quantity of final product whilst enhancing the operational safety of workers.

It is believed that this new automated Rice Mill has significant potential to increase the production of Morawewa Rice verities for Sri Lanka Air Force establishments and this investment can make positive impact as a welfare measure for Sri Lanka Air Force personnel.
